Aircraft vulnerability analysis and evaluation refers to the assessment of the difficulty of damage to aircrafts after being attacked in combat. It is an important indicator to measure aircraft combat performance. Moreover, it is significative to study the vulnerability of aircraft, contributing to the high survivability design of aircraft and the prediction and evaluation of aircraft battle damage. This article first briefly introduces the general methods and procedures of aircraft vulnerability analysis, collects and sorts out the historical evolution and condition construction status of the U.S. military aircraft’s vulnerability testing, and takes the full-scale F-35 test, F135 engine test and C27 wing fuel tank test as examples to introduce the method of live fire testing for aircraft vulnerability. It can be found that at the legislation level, the U.S. military has formed a standardized and institutionalized live fire testing system for aircraft vulnerability, which is jointly coordinated by live fire testing agencies, equipment suppliers and military users. At the same time, the live fire test platform established by U.S. military strives to simulate the battlefield environment more realistically, which can effectively monitor the serviceScondition of components/subsystems under specific situations. The test results can effectively support the aircraft fault tree and component/subsystem damage criteria, effectively guiding the aircraft’s low-vulnerability design.
