Missiles are complex, highly integrated systems that consist of various types of equipment. As the incorporation of intelligent technologies in missiles expands the scope of their quality characteristics, intelligent missiles have even more stringent requirements for quality control and inspection than conventional missiles. Therefore, there is a need to develop suitable inspection methodologies for intelligent missiles. In this paper, the definition and connotations of intelligent missiles are first described, followed by an analysis of their intelligent characteristics. The structural composition of intelligent missiles is then summarized, and the function and structural composition of each intelligent component are analyzed. The requirements for quality inspections on intelligent missiles are then outlined based on their structure, testing parameters, the functions of the embedded software in their intelligent components, and the machining precision of their parts. Based on these requirements and the capabilities of intelligent manufacturing technology, several methods and approaches for quality inspections on intelligent missiles are proposed, including online inspection, automated inspection/ testing, built-in-test self-diagnosis, software testing technology, and missile-borne telemetry.
