Equipment testing is a prerequisite for equipment performance monitoring, fault prediction and diagnosis, health management, combat effectiveness evaluation, and regeneration. Breakthroughs in intelligent technologies, such as big data, cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms, and AI chips, have sparked the global era of “intelligent military” and driven the development of informatized and intelligent equipment. First, this work presents the significance of equipment testing with regard to the characteristics of informatized and intelligent equipment, which are highly technical and integrated, have complex structures, and possess powerful combat capabilities. Then, the limitations of testing such intelligent equipment are analyzed. Finally, five suggestions are presented for establishing intelligent equipment testing capabilities, including formulation of scientific and standardized equipment testing measures, intelligent testing systems, diversified testing methodologies, application of intelligent data processing methods, and creation of talent teams for intelligent testing. These measures provide the scientific basis for devising intelligent equipment testing capabilities for military purposes.
